SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE — Ho-Chunk, Inc. celebrated the opening of Flatwater Metals’ new location in South Sioux City, NE during an open house held Friday, October 10, 2014. The Ho-Chunk, Inc. subsidiary specializes in delivering high quality, cost effective raw metals products to the commercial and government sectors such as aerospace, construction, military, manufacturing, nuclear, marine/shipbuilding, transportation, chemical processing and more.
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Winnebago, NE, Flatwater Metals was selected to take part in the Mentor-Protégé Program by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Flatwater Metals is mentored by TW Metals, a leading global distributor of specialty metals, headquartered in Exton, PA. The DoD Mentor-Protégé Program is designed to assist small disadvantaged businesses expand and diversify the overall base of their marketplace, as well as develop needed business and technical capabilities.
Due to the early success of Flatwater Metals, the company needed to expand its space for its production saw cutting capabilities and metals inventory. After working with both the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and the City of South Sioux City to find suitable land, the company purchased the old Mallory Industries building. Minimal renovations were required and it opened for business in June, 2014.
“We wanted to find the right location and are pleased with our choice of expanding to South Sioux City. Flatwater Metals anticipates substantial growth in the next few years and this space and the surrounding land will accommodate future expansion,” said Lance Morgan, President and CEO of Ho-Chunk, Inc.
Flatwater Metals offers customers a broad range of metals products, including carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, alloy, nickel, and red metal in wide variety of categories including plate, coil, sheet, rod, bar, wire, tubing, pipe, extrusions, forging and specialty products. The company also sells its metal products by the foot. Flatwater Metals offers one-off to production saw cutting capabilities for all bar and structural metals products.
